Indiera - Maricao

Hacienda Indiera was established ca. 1868, today it is on land owned by the government agency "Administración de Desarrollo Rural".

According to Archeologist Luis Pumarada O'Neil, in 1977 "even in its ruined state the old grandeur of Hacienda Indiera remains".  Supposedly the remaining structure is the most imposing coffee plantation establishment in the area.  In its heydays it was owned by one of the the largest and most important coffee firms on the island; Bartolomei, Molini & Cía. who at the end of the 19th Century owned several plantations in the region.

Bartolomei, Molini & Cia. was a partnership between Corsican immigrants Antonio Molini Benigni (1844-1927) who arrived in Puerto Rico in 1864 and owned Hacienda La Gloria later known as Hacienda Rio Prieto in Maricao and Alejandro Bartolomei Tulli (1853-1940) who arrived in Puerto Rico in 1869 and owned Hacienda Tres Hermanos in Maricao.

It is located ¼ mile east of PR-128 km 26.4.  The pictures below are part of a 1987 study made by Archeologist Luis Pumarada O'Neill.  Source: Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office.
