Vicente Nieto & Bros.

The Nieto-Mosqueira siblings; José (1869-1941), Vicente (1876-1934), Antonio (1877-1944) and Pastora (1872-1947) were Spanish immigrants from the village of Meirengos in Galicia, who arrived in the US between 1901 and 1902.  The 1910 census record show Vicente a cigar maker and José a hotel waiter boarders at a hotel owned by M. G. Arguelles at 176 10th Ave. Vicente Nieto established his cigar manufacturing business in California in 1919.  The Retail Tobacconist in its edition of May 4, 1922 published an article stating,

"Vicente Nieto, the well known San Francisco manufacturer of the Vicente Nieto cigar brand, informs me that his firm will hereafter be known as Vicente Nieto & Bros.  Business is good, according to Mr. Nieto."

The 1940 census records show José and Antonio, both cigar factory owners, and Pastora no occupation stated, all single and living at 2708 18th Ave. in Tampa. This 7,168 sq. ft. cigar factory building at 2708 N 18th St. on the southwest corner of 17th Ave. & 18th St. in Ybor City, was built in 1925 for Vicente Nieto & Bros. where they manufactured the Vicente Nieto brand cigars on the first floor and used the second floor as their residence.   The structure does not follow the typical cigar factory design of those days, but evidently served the purpose for the Nieto brothers.  Antonio and José worked in the Tampa factory and Vicente, who always lived and died in California, sold their cigars in the California market which was their only market outside of Tampa.

In the late 1950s or early 1960s, Carlos Fuente then second generation family member running Arturo Fuente Cigar Co., acquired the building and manufactured cigars here on the first floor, his parents Arturo and Cristina lived on the second floor.  They outgrew the manufacturing space and in 1965 moved the cigar factory to the Charles the Great factory building at 1310 N 22nd St. in Ybor City.

On August 12, 1970 Carlos and Anna Fuente transferred title to this property to Arturo Fuente Cigar Factory, Inc.  On June 24, 1976 Arturo Fuente Cigar Factory, Inc. entered into an Agreement for Deed with José Anthony Blanco II and on March 10, 1980 transferred title to Jose Antonio Blanco II and Jose Antonio Blanco Sr.  The Blanco family used the first floor for cabinet making and remodeled the second floor into several residential units.  On February 21, 2023 the Blanco family sold the property for a reported $725,000 to Black Orchid & Co. LLC whose members are Manuel Garcia and Liana Fuente with address at 1310 N 22nd St., the address of the Arturo Fuente corporate headquarters.
