First United Methodist Church

The third structure Nechodoma designed for the Methodist Church in Puerto Rico was the First United Methodist Church in Ponce, built in 1907, a year before the McCabe Memorial Church in Playa de Ponce.

The main nave of this church runs parallel to its front on Villa Street, so the main entrance is sideways.  It is a small churchcompared to the typical Catholic churches on the island.  The tower was damaged in the 1918 earthquaque and rebuilt on a design by Francisco Porrata Doria.  It can be noted that the tower is built in solid concrete, not in concrete blocks like the rest of the structure.

This Church building was included in the National Register of Historic Places in 1987
